According the bible, the name Abraham is constructed of the words אב (av, "father") and המון (hamon, "many"), since Abraham was the father of many peoples.
The name of the first of the "three fathers" of the Jewish people. Originally, he was called "Abram". His name was altered to "Abraham" by God who spoke to him. He was Sarah's husband.
"Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham, for a father of many nations have I made thee." Genesis 17, 5
