The first part of the name may come from the word "כֶּתֶר" (keter, "crown"). The second part is "אֵל" (el, "God").

Hello,
My grandfather's family is of Jewish ancestry and I am wanting to find out more about the origin of my last name, which is Kariel. I know from historical records that my family's name used to be Casriel, and I can see that these are both similar to the name Katriel. Some of my family members seem to think that our name came from Hebrew words meaning "called by the Lord", but none of us knows for sure since we do not speak Hebrew. I am not interested in taking any courses, but if someone could help me out with this I would really appreciate it.
This has been a very good class, a very good learning experience and if I have the opportunity to visit Israel , my wife and I would like to meet Adina. Lehitra'ot
