Shiphrah and Puah were two Hebrew midwives in Egype at the time when Moses was born. The Egyptian king ordered them to kill all the newborn Hebrew boys, but they disobeyed him.
"And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah." Exodus 1, 15
