This course is for

Adult students of all ages (18 and above), who can hold a basic conversation in Hebrew, know the alphabet and can read and write short and simple texts.

Duration

One academic year.

Course structure and goals

The course is equivalent to an Ulpan in Israel.
The course builds a solid ground for fluent speech, focusing on correct grammar in Hebrew. The class meets every week and practices the use of the correct grammar in speaking, reading and writing. Homework assignments are given every week as well as a list of new words learnt in class. Throughout the course students expand their vocabulary which significantly improves their level of speaking. Students must complete homework assignments sent by the teacher after each lesson.

At the end of the course the student will

know how to speak in Hebrew and ask for objects found in their surroundings.
know how to express feelings and emotions in Hebrew..
know how to construct sentences in Hebrew in their correct grammar.
know how to read short texts, stories and essays in Hebrew.
know how to write short texts in Hebrew.

5Traveling on an outingIn this lesson we'll go over the present tense conjugation and the infinitive construct of pa'al-stem verbs.
We'll think about where to travel on a short outing in Israel, and we'll talk about dentists.
6A letter from IsraelIn this lesson we'll delve deeper into the present tense conjugation of pa'al-stem verbs, and we'll read the letter Danny (who came to Israel to study) wrote to his parents.

In this lesson we'll finally begin learning the past tense!
We'll learn the past tense conjugation of pa'al-stem verbs (regular verbs) and we'll read about Rachel's trip to Eilat.
8Vegetable salad and fruitcakeIn this lesson we'll learn about combining noun constructs. Understanding noun constructs and the ability to create them will broaden and enrich our manner of expression in Hebrew.
9Birthday presentsIn this lesson we'll deepen our understanding of the subject of noun constructs. We'll eat chocolate cake and we'll buy history books.
10Danny says that there's nothing in the house - no coffee, and not even sugar!In this lesson we'll study double negative expressions (never, nothing...) and how to use them in Hebrew.
We'll also learn to relate to what other people say, and we'll learn useful Hebrew words.
11Pa'al-stem verbs - Ayin-Vav groupDanny's aunt has arrived for a visit, and all day long she sings opera. What can he do? Danny is very tired...
12Where did you live a year ago?In this lesson, we'll learn past tense conjugation of pa'al-stem verbs, of the Ayin-Vav type.
By the end of the lesson we'll know how to tell where we lived a year ago, and when was the last time we flew to Israel.
13The students are excellentIn this lesson we'll learn to understand and say sentences without verbs. In Hebrew, the verb "to be" doesn't exist in present tense. What do we do?
Study of verbless sentences will broaden our expressive ability and comprehension in Hebrew.
