Let’s get started with everyday Hebrew words and situations
Course structure and goals
The course focuses on reading and writing Modern Hebrew. Throughout the course students learn the Hebrew alphabet (Aleph Bet) and vowels, and acquire 500 words in Hebrew used in basic conversation on a variety of topics.
Students learn words and situations that one would encounter on a typical day in school, at home or with family and neighbors, and celebrate Jewish holidays and special days in class.
This course is forStudents at the ages of 7-16 (classes are divided according to age), whose native language is not Hebrew and have either no prior knowledge or a little knowledge of the language. The students should have experience in reading and writing in their native language and be interested in learning Hebrew.
One school year.
At the end of the course the student will

In this course the kids will learn basic speaking, reading and writing in Hebrew, accompanied by cartoon characters from the book "Hakol Hadash" (Everything New Part 1). During the course they will learn the Hebrew alphabet, both the handwritten and printed types; they will learn nouns from their world: family, home and school; adjectives, prepositions, verbs in present tense and infinitive construct forms.
Lessons will incorporate many fun activities such as memory games, matching words to pictures, texts, dialogues and picture stories.
Kids will also receive the workbook "Nekudat Hen" (Beauty Spot) that will enrich their vocabulary and help them exercise their handwriting skills.
Throughout the year, at the appropriate times, we will also cover topics related to the Jewish holidays.

|1||Introductions||In this lesson we will introduce the characters that will accompany us during the course: Ram, Nira and Robo. We will also learn the personal pronouns: I, you, and the word Shalom.|
With these words students will be able to form the sentences: I am Ram, I am Nira, I am Robo. I am (their name), hello Robo, hello (their name), etc.
|2||Who are we||In this lesson the word no joins our vocabulary.|
We will rehearse and strengthen words from the previous lesson and add sentences and possibilities using the new word no.
Negative form: I am not Ram, I am not Robo, I am not (friend's name). And the question: Are you Ram? No, I am not Ram, Nira.
|3||Where are we||In this lesson we will learn the new words: Home, class, car and the preposition in.|
Students will be able to form new sentences relating to the characters' location, for example: Is Ram home? Yes Ram is home. Is Robo also home? No, Robo is in the car, Nira is in class, etc.
|4||Who is in...||In this lesson we will add the question word who, and strengthen the words we learned in the previous lesson. Now we can ask questions and carry out a conversation about: who is in the.... Who is not in the....|
|5||Who is in the family?||In this lesson we will learn the words mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, of, it, that.|
We will learn the grammatical distinction between male and female using the clue words this (male) and this (female). We will also learn how to say hello in different languages.
|6||Whose is this?||In this lesson we will add the words of and mine. We will also go over and reinforce words from our previous lesson.|
|7||Where do we live?||Today we will learn words that are names of places: Israel, Jerusalem and other places that students come from.|
We will also learn the question word where, and the verb lives, and practice using the word in. We will practice the grammatical male/female distinction using the words lives (male) and lives (female).
|8||How nice it is to live there||In this lesson we will add the words: there, nice and street and continue practicing the grammatical male/female distinction using the words lives (in male/female forms). We will expand the use of the word in, using different vocalization, but showing that this word always appears before a name of a place.|
We will mainly talk about questions such as: Where does (do) X/you/ live?
|9||Who else is a student in the family?||In this lesson we will learn the words: sister, kindergarten, Liat, student, uncle Sammy.|
|10||Practice||We will learn by taking apart words that we know and building new words. This method incorporates teaching a whole word and parts of a word and connecting the parts.|
This will be an enjoyable practice lesson for lessons 1-9. We will practice what we learned through various fun activities.
|11||School||In this lesson we will learn words related to school and class, such as: desk, chair, school bag and book. We will learn the words the and on which will help us position things and people.|
|12||and... thank you||Today we will learn to use the word and which will improve our communication skills. We will also learn the words here and thank you which allow us to respond and to communicate better.|
We will rehearse the words we learned in the previous lesson and at the end of the lesson go over all of the words we have learned so far.
|13||Maybe there is?||Let's expand our list of school related words, such as: notebook, and pencil, as well as other every-day words such as: money and television.|
Let's also learn sentences with is/isn't, the word maybe that will enable us to express uncertainty, and the word only that will enable more accurate distinctions.
|14||What is in the schoolbag?||In this lesson we will learn to ask what and distinguish it from the question words we have already learned: where and who. We will also go over and practice the rest of the words in the unit.|
In the following lessons we will start using verbs.
|15||What do we learn in School?||In this lesson we will learn words describing school subjects: math, Hebrew, music and physical education. We will start learning verbs, and this time: learning (male/female).|
We will also go over and rehearse words we already know.
|16||What lesson do we have today?||In this lesson we will go over the words we learned in lesson 15 and will also learn the words: lesson, today and also he/ she. At the end of the lesson we will go over words we know.|
|17||Where is he going?||In this lesson we will learn the verbs: walking and running (male/female). We will add places that we go to, such as: store, party and place of work.|
We will also start learning and practicing writing using the handwritten letters.
|18||Who is running home?||Today we will go over the words: school, store, party, work, walking and running. We will expand our list of question words and add the word where to and the word to indicating a direction and answering the question where to? We will also learn the word home and how to indicate direction by adding just one letter.|
We will also practice other words and questions we know and read some interesting texts.
|19||Practice||This is a practice lesson for lessons 11-18. We will practice what we learned through various fun activities, including: dialogues, games, picture stories, matching games and evaluations. The words maybe and only appear again as they were taught and afterwards a new dialogue.|
|20||I have friends||In this lesson we will learn the words: bicycle, guitar, ball, watch, friend (male/female) and friends. We will also learn the inflection of the word to: to me, to him, to her in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd person, in order to develop our is/isn't sentences.|
We will also introduce the plural form through the word friends (and also mention the female form)
|21||You have nothing?||In this lesson we will complete the 2nd person in the preposition to, by practicing dialogues and conversions and adding the words: nothing and but. We will also go over and rehearse known words.|
|22||What do you want?||This lesson will introduce the words: boy, girl, bottle of juice, candy, please, big (male/female), small (male/female), and the verb want (male/female) and give (male/female). We are still practicing the grammatical male/female distinction only in the singular form.|
|23||Please give me....||In this lesson we will go over all of the words from lesson 22, and expand our knowledge through lots of texts, fun games and grammar practice tables.|
|24||What do we do now?||This lesson will introduce the words: girls, boys, football game, note, movie and also: writing, reading and traveling in the four present tenses (singular / plural/ male / female). We will learn the word now and how to use it in a sentence.|
For the first time, the male/female grammatical distinction will not be only in singular but also in plural.
|25||Are all the kids going to the movie?||In this lesson we will go over the words we learned last time and also learn the words: good, all and with. We will read texts which will include all the words we have learned so far and get acquainted with all the present tenses and the roots we have learned.|
|26||What do we do on the break?||In this lesson we will learn the words: roll, apple, chocolate and break and also: eating and playing in all tenses.|
We will go over names of other languages as we did in lesson 5 using the word hello and this time we will learn how names of languages are formed out of the names of their countries.
|27||Why? Because I know||In this lesson we will learn the word for new immigrant and the words know and speak in all present forms. The question why and the word because used as an answer will also be learned enhancing our conversational skills.|
We will also learn the word excellent and new used for evaluating. This lesson will incorporate more texts rehearsing the all of the words we know from previous units.
|28||What are we, you and they doing?||This lesson will introduce the plural: we, you (male/female) they (male/female) in the present tense and go over the words from lessons 26-27.|
We will read texts and practice have fun forming sentences using verbs in various forms as well as all of the others words we know.
|29||How old are you?||In this lesson we will learn abstract numbers (female) from one to twelve and learn to use numbers to indicate age and read a clock in round hours. We will also learn the sentences how old are you (male/female) + the combination words forming: congratulations (mazal tov) and birthday.|
|30||What do you want to do?||Today we will learn to use the verbs: see and hear and different ways of using some verbs we learned so far. We will learn the verb doing incorporating all of the verbs learned in the course. For example what are you doing? I am eating, drinking, reading etc.|
We will learn to use will be done combined with want.
