I've always seen my mother challenge herself while she was getting older... she was creating things to improve her mental capacity... she was always very busy doing something that she had to finish... She never let old age get to her and died "very young" at 88 well lived years!

So after I've finished my "job" bringing up my two sons I decided to follow my mother's step and thought that I needed a challenge too! Being aware of my Jewish roots and having taken the decision...

I started to learn Modern Hebrew with eTeacher last year. I have been learning for a year. I enjoy that I now can read the Hebrew words, I do it wherever I can for practice.

Each year, The Kibbutz Ex-Volunteer Association presents the Israeli Film Festival, supported by the Israel Embassy to Australia. I enjoy the films.

Last year, I barely understood the Hebrew in the films, this year I understood more and I was translating some for my friend....

G'day Mate, (good day friends) I've been learning Hebrew for a few weeks now as I am involved in bringing tours of pilgrims from Australia to visit Israel and enjoy and explore the Holy Land of the Bible. I have been to Israel 3 times now and my wife and I will be returning a 4th time this November with about 60 Australian pilgrims.

Learning to speak and read basic modern Hebrew has been a great experience and adds to the depth of appreciation for the people, its culture...

My Grandmother Anna was a child shoah survivor from Hungary. Her parents were murdered and she was taken from her home at a very young age, so did not have the benefit of a Jewish education or the ability to speak Hebrew. As a result, my mother and I were not raised with knowledge of our own language and scarce exposure to Jewish tradition.

It is a sad state of affairs to be raised without ones native culture, and leaves you constantly asking "who am I?" Learning Hebrew...

Learning Hebrew online was for me an entirely new approach to the study of languages (and believe me, I have done quite a few). I found it fresh and motivating. Our teacher Rochalle was patient with us and showed excellent pedagogical skills and much humor. I would have wished for more lessons than only once a week, but fortunately there...

It all started four years ago. I was flipping through Google pages, a thought came into mind: Perhaps I can pick up Hebrew again if anybody out there is offering lessons. Hebrew Online popped up (eTeacherHebrew). I called them with this question: You guys are legitimate Hebrew institute and not a scammer, right?

The guy on the phone laughed, and said, “Yes. We are legitimate, real teachers from Israel.” I signed up not knowing where and how this path would lead me. Years...

When I emailed my teacher Nechama Hashiloni from Hebrewonline that I was going to volunteer with www.sar-el.org see under Feature Articles, by Sophia Trouwborst. Nechama lost no time to invite me. She picked me up at the Care Home Mishan in Beersheva where I was volunteering. I had the choice of where to go. Since I had seen a lot of Israel already I told her that I would like to see the old city of Avdat. Nechama's husband Asher...

Shalom! About 28 years ago, I dropped out of the University of Alaska Anchorage. I had earned an Associate of Arts degree prior to that, in California, and got about halfway through my BA when, due to circumstances, I had to leave school. One of the courses that I took as part of my Associate of Arts degree was a year of Modern Hebrew. I absolutely fell in love with the language and I never lost that love, in fact, over...

I decided to study Modern Hebrew after visiting Israel several times in the past. Although I had a knowledge of Hebrew through my daily prayers and devotionals, I yearned to be able to communicate with others in the vernacular in the land of Israel, the land which I love so much.

Even though I can communicate through prayer with the Almighty (assisted with Torah and Siddur) I wanted something more meaningful in my life. I purchased books in the past and participated in...
